Organization of Football in Cyprus

The organization of football in Cyprus is based on a hierarchical league system, allowing clubs to ascend or be relegated based on their performance. This structure is divided into several tiers, ranging from professional to amateur football.

At the top of the hierarchy is the Cyprus First Division, which is the highest level of Cypriot football. It comprises 12 professional clubs vying for the title of Cyprus champion. The bottom three teams in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the Cyprus Second Division, which also includes 16 clubs. The top two teams from this division are promoted to the First Division, while the bottom three descend to the Cyprus Third Division.

The Cyprus Third Division, the third tier, hosts 16 teams. The top three teams are promoted to the Second Division, and the bottom three are relegated to the STOK Elite Division. This level is the highest level of amateur football in Cyprus.

The STOK Elite Division, the fourth tier of Cypriot football, is organized into two groups. It includes amateur clubs as well as reserve teams from professional outfits. Beyond the STOK Elite Division, the system continues with regional divisions, highlighting the depth and richness of Cypriot football at all levels of competition.

The Cyprus Football Association (CFA)

The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) is the official body overseeing football in Cyprus. Established in 1934, it is responsible for organizing and developing football at all levels, from amateur football to professional competitions. The CFA also manages national teams, including the men's, women's, and youth teams. Its role encompasses managing the rules of the game, promoting sportsmanship, and guiding ethics in the sport.

Under the auspices of the CFA is the Cyprus Football League, which manages the men's and women's professional leagues. The CFA also organizes the Cyprus Cup, a competition open to all Cypriot clubs, from amateur to professional. Beyond competitions, the CFA places a strong emphasis on developing women's football, sports infrastructure, and training programs for players and coaches.
