Organisation of Football in Liechtenstein

The organisation of football in Liechtenstein is unique. Indeed, Liechtenstein does not have its own national league. The seven football clubs in the country therefore participate in the Swiss league, which is organised into several hierarchical levels.

The most successful club in Liechtenstein, the FC Vaduz, generally competes in the top two divisions of Swiss football, either the Super League or the Challenge League. The other clubs in the country, such as USV Eschen/Mauren, FC Balzers, FC Schaan, FC Triesen, FC Triesenberg, and FC Ruggell, play in the lower divisions of the Swiss league.

In addition to their participation in the Swiss league, the Liechtenstein clubs compete each year for the Liechtenstein Cup. This competition is the only one organised by the Liechtenstein Football Association and gives the winner the right to participate in the UEFA Europa League.

It is important to note that despite the absence of a national league, football in Liechtenstein is well organised and the country's clubs have managed to make a name for themselves on the international stage, particularly through their performances in European competitions.

The Liechtenstein Football Association (LFA)

The Liechtenstein Football Association (LFA) is the official body overseeing football in the country of Liechtenstein. Established in 1934, the LFA is responsible for organizing and developing football at all levels within the country, from amateur competitions to professional matches. The LFA also manages the Liechtenstein national team, which participates in international competitions under its auspices.

In addition to overseeing national competitions, the LFA plays a crucial role in promoting sportsmanship and guiding ethics in football. It strives to develop sports infrastructures and training programs for players and coaches, thereby contributing to the constant improvement of football in Liechtenstein.
