Organization of Football in Morocco

The organization of football in Morocco is based on a hierarchical league system, allowing clubs to ascend or face relegations based on their performances. This structure is divided into several levels, ranging from professionalism to semi-professionalism, down to amateur football.

At the top of the hierarchy is the Botola Pro, which is the highest level of Moroccan football. It comprises 16 professional clubs vying for the title of Moroccan champion. The bottom two teams in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the Botola Pro 2, which also includes 16 clubs. The top two teams from this division are promoted to Botola Pro, while the bottom three descend to the Amateur 1.

The Amateur 1, the third tier, hosts 16 teams, predominantly semi-professional. The top two teams are promoted to Botola Pro 2, and the bottom four are relegated to the Amateur 2. This level is subdivided into two groups of 16 clubs each, operating on the same principle of promotion and relegation with Amateur 1 and the Amateur 3.

The Amateur 3, the fifth level of Moroccan football, is organized into several regional groups. It includes amateur clubs as well as reserve teams from professional outfits. Beyond Amateur 3, the system continues with regional and departmental divisions, underscoring the depth and richness of Moroccan football at all levels of competition.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (RMFF)

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (RMFF) is the official body overseeing football in Morocco. Established in 1955, it is responsible for organizing and developing football at all levels, from amateur football to professional competitions. The RMFF also manages the national teams, including the men's, women's, and youth teams. Its role includes managing the rules of the game, promoting sportsmanship, and overseeing ethics in the sport.

Under the auspices of the RMFF is the National Professional Football League (NPFL), which manages the men's professional leagues, the Botola Pro 1 and Botola Pro 2, as well as the Throne Cup. The RMFF also organizes the Moroccan Cup, a competition open to all Moroccan clubs, from amateur to professional. Beyond competitions, the RMFF places a strong emphasis on developing women's football, sports infrastructure, and training programs for players and coaches.
